Port Moody Steamers

From the West Hill apartments, Woodland Park and now to Heritage Woods, I have lived the majority of my life in Port Moody. Growing up in Woodland Park was humble but amazing. An abundance of green space, parks and the legendary West Hill pool, provided access for kids to gather and roam freely. Belcarra Park, Buntzen and Sasamat Lakes, Burrard Inlet all provided little getaways for kids and families all within our little community. During my childhood, we saw the development of the city centre and further up Heritage Mountain. We have seen the gradual transition and community expansion and more recently a more rapid transition and rapid expansion.

Throughout the history of Port Moody, the main element that has attracted residents and visitors alike is the natural environment. How many small communities close to a major metropolitan area can offer such incredible nature and beauty? I would argue that very few could compare to what the lands in Port Moody provide.

My brothers and I all grew up in Port Moody. Now, my three boys will all grow up here. I will do whatever I can to make sure that this city grows in balance with the natural surroundings so that many generations will enjoy living in this jewel of a city!
