Why is Port Moody developing an Urban Forest Management Strategy?
Trees are important assets in our urban areas and contribute to the overall quality in life in Port Moody by providing benefits such as cleaning the air, shading and cooling streets, capturing rainwater, and stimulating the local economy. Port Moody’s Urban Forest Management Strategy will capture the importance of preserving and maximizing such benefits by establishing a long-term 30-year vision while anticipating urban growth and challenges related to climate change.
Who manages trees in Port Moody?
The City’s Parks department is responsible for the management of trees on City property. Trees on private land are managed by the landowners or managers. Port Moody’s Tree Protection Bylaw regulates tree retention and replacement on public land and some private land. Management of trees on public land is guided by the Tree Management on City Property policy and Street Trees policy.
